MOVIE TITLE CATCH AND RELEASE

I am this time finish with this project making a short animation movie as a school project. I started the idea about this movie as a combination of a fun movie and a serious movie. The serious is I dont like the fishing style clip the hook, catch and pull a wild fish to land and then relase it and fish it again... It is a bad thing to do this. To be sportsfisher and catch a fish and kill it fast to eat it can be accepted, but not only have fun with living wild animals like this.

So I deside to make up a short animation where I first used the camera in a position where the fisherman look big (big ego) and his wife smaller (she needed to follow here husbands egotrip). I placed then the smaller wife longer away from the camera and him and started the movie where she looking up to him and asking him nicely if she cud play music, if it would disturb the fish? (she did not interested in the husbands strange hobby at all, but afraid for his strong ego) She then start up a rytmic music and dance and then turn the back to him and walking out in the river to bath and swim. He also turn the back to here and then cud not see what the wife doing. His ego to big, only the strange hobby consern him.

My next camera shot was then planned from a higher level and down to the husband since I would not make him to a hero place the camera in a low position when he do this strange fishing style and when he now get the wife on the hook. Here I get many good advices from our teacher to make different camera angels and also close up shots show the facial expressions, also make the shots shorter then I did in the beginning. I just wounder if teacher did`nt understand the serious part of this movie, but had to much focus only on the fun part of it? Reason is that I following all the advices and cut down the movie 50% and also get comment of use of my high camera angels on the fisherman, and the first placing of female character had a low position as I have explained the reason upon here. Results of my hard cut of the original 2,5 minutes long movie is that my serious point at this movie get cut away and we sit back with a short animation movie around 1 minute who seem little "flat", still if it is little fun in it when he start pull in the wife with fishing rod and she scream start shaking here boobies.

The original moviemanus and storey board was made to keep the serios point to the end of this movie, including she scream " RELEASE ME!" and he just took his knife and cut the fishingline, he get panic of the angry wife (he is now in a lower status then his wife) Wife should fall backwards into the water and then start run after him, he is the loser this time...

Maybe it is my mistake this, that I should said very clear from the beginning my two different goal with this movie, but I will always try make up storeys and movies with some good points if possible and it is not normal for artists to explain in detail why they have made exactly that piece of art. It is up to the audience to self find it out and some do and other do not see it. It will always be like that in future also :-)
This movie was finish couple of weeks before the deadline because of the hard cut down on the duration. Suggestion about then start extend it again is not possible since I losed the interest and motivation on this movie early when I cud see I cut away the original point with the movie. My goal then was just to do it finish to get the needed grade and pass the examen.

When teachers will consider grades on this project I hope they also thinking about and study my 2 characters I made up for this movie and I made the rig to it and I have working with 2 characters on the scene and then it will be double up with everything including animation. In 3D max file teacher need to understand that I have render each scene out with different light settings and moved the lights around there to each scene + hiding and re-hiding objects after whats match each scene rendering.

I also used V Ray rendering and that render option is not similar as they other render options in 3D Max. Gamma is strange on that and the the light settings in light control and invoirments are not function the same. But use of V Ray fasten the rendertime, reason I used it.

Thanks to NorOff Instituttet and to the teachers for this project and all the other nice projects we have done in the last 2 year, I have learned plenty and will still do my whole life. I learned here that I need to be very clear as a moviemaker, telling everyone in the next production whats the point with the movie. This is what I failed on with this movie I can see.

PrePlanning Oblig 11

We are on the start of making our short animated movie in NorOff Instituttet and this project is about planning this movie.
I will make it in 3D cartoon the characters and trie to use after effects mix in classic camera background, if I can find a good location for background shots here in Bangkok. If I cant find it, then I will also make the entire scene in 3D max. I will render it out in HD 1920 x 1080 and 29,97 frames per sec, but will publish it for the school in internet on Vimeo format and in vimeo.com.

It is only 19 frames on that 2D animatic so it seem slow, but will change when I have replaced it with animated action. You can study my timeline and flowchart below this reviced Story Board in color.

CONCEPTUALIZATION - OBLIG 10

We will soon start make a short movie as students in NorOff Institute, Norway and this Oblig 10 is the beginning of that project. First I start with create 2 alternative movies I can make alone on a 17 week period later this winter.
Both movies are in animated 3D cartoon with sound and in HD 1920 x 1080 format. Length of movies without Intro and credits will be on movie 2 around 120 sec and movie number one between 60 and 120 sec.

I have deside to go for movie one here, still if it has some challenge to animate water in movement...

Self Reflection
To much grey background on the storey board of movie 1, but I can still be used when blow up the pics little on the screen. Just click them up larger. I am sleepy, have been a hard oblig this with cero sleep for dayes...

A short pitch of both movies:

Movie one:
Geekensetein and his wife Jelly are on fishingtrip on a rive when he get the hook at Jellys bikini top. She run after him when he cut the fishingline so she fall back in the water.

Movie 2:
Alien come drop down from space with a spaceship and land on Geekenstein and his wifes spacelab on a small Island near coastline of NorthNorway. Alien invite them for a treasure hunt on his spaceship and the follow him.

Treatment Title: The big Catch

Professor Geekenstein and his wife Jelly are on a fishingtrip. Jelly say she will take a bath in the river and dissapare. Geekenstein start fishing with his flie-fishing rod, smile and say to himself: "Today I will take the big catch, he,he,he".

Fishing line passing upon a big timber floating on side of him in the river and suddenly on the other side of the timber Jelly get the hook on heres bikini top! Both start scream in same time! A big fight start where both pulling on the line, Geekenstein is very excited since he is sure he have get the big catch he have dream about!
Geekenstein can hear Jelly also scream and say:" Ohhh yea, he,he,he she is also exited of this my big catch!"

Suddenly Jelly show up with there upper half of body on the floating timber and scream to him" REALASE ME!" Geekenstein get a chocked face and do a fast cut on the fishing line with his knife. Jelly fall back in water behind the floating timber with both arms up in air. Geekenstein look at the camera some seconds and start run when Jelly come run angry after him.

PROFESSOR GEEKENSTEIN`S SPACELAB – SHORT

SOUND: EXPLOSION. EFFECT: SMOKE, FIRE. North-Norway 16 august 2018, early in the morning. Flames and smoke surrounding a spaceship with alien’s onboard when it drops into the atmosphere in high speed. A couple of load explosion sound roll between the wild mountains before the spaceship slow down the speed and near stop up in the air. PROFESSOR GEEKENSTEIN, 29, and his wife JELLY, 28, disagree if they should say yes or no to invite the alien to their space-lab and when they discuss this outside their private space lab, the spaceship show up and landing near them. They run and hide behind a rock. A port open on the spaceship and a strange looking ALIEN show up and stand in silent a moment with his right hand on a gun hanging on his belt. Alien start walking to them and stop up near the rock. He turns slowly the large head and his oval shape large black eyes searching the landscape. Alien body seem thin and skin on face and hands look light. He does not have outstanding nose and ears like humans.

A crow starts scream when passing the rock and alien turn fast around when he pull the gun and pointing it to them! Alien lift also his left arm and point first at them and then on the ground between him and the rock where they hiding. They stand up with hands up to show they don’t have any guns, and walking to where the alien have pointed.

When stand there the alien lower his gun and he telling them with left hand that they can put down their hands and relaxing because he is friendly.

Alien asking them for help to find a kind of key they lost on earth many years ago in the past. This key is important for him and his alien friends to solved one of the mysteries in the universe and to track up a large treasure.

They agree to help the alien and alien telling them they will get a part of the treasure as thanks for their help. He pulls up an old map and pointing the finger on a red cross on the map and then pointing at them and the spaceship.

Alien look at them for long and they all turn around and start to walk to the spaceship, to the beginning of a treasure hunt full of adventures and action.

Spaceship have takeoff with them and vanishing up in the air. Short time after the crow come and sits down on the rock, and screams again!

Project 9 - Animated Birds - Tutorials- Post Production

This project is about making tutorial as Post Production in 3D. I choose to make animated birds fly on this project. Study referance to this project is from my past when I daily handle wild birdsand animals as edjucated Zoological Taxidermist.

This case is about understanding the term Post Production.Tutorial will be about that. Postproduction can be a mix of film cutting, after effects, adding sounds and text etc in the production line after example a 3D animation have been rendered out as a raw movie.

Post Production Tutorial - Mix with Motion 3D Animation and Classic Film

One of the reason I choosed this tutorial to make is because I belive this will be a common part of my work as moviemaker or animator in near future. It is a interesting subject this. And it is very time saving to us working with animation to use background scenes mixed in to our animation scenes. Like in this tutorial I used only minutes to stop a taxi and let the taxi drive down the street when I film the background scene in motion. If I should have modelling and include all the houses in the rendering scene of the crow I would used many dayes with extra time on that. And that background scene needed to be motion blur whoever so...:-))

Projekt 5 - The Treatment:

Projekt 6 - The Story Board:

Projekt 7 - The 2D Animatic:

2D animatic is build up on 43 frames from the storyboard from this projects. You can see the arrows there show directions of camera, movements on human, wehicle, animal etc. It is in black and white and with some soundeffects. It is really no need for color on a 2D Animatic since it is only a tool for making the real final movie. I did not add arrows for light this time in storyboard and this 2D Animatic because it is a clothy day with no sunshine and near the ocean. Light is then spred everywhere. 2D anitmatic can be a good and useful tool to get a view, I like the idea about this :-)

Projekt 8 - The 3D Wiz:

The image of the spaceship upon here is a snapshot from the 3D Wiz short movie I just finish with. This movie is not a final product of a animation movie, but a tool for us to use wen we will start make the final movie later on.

This "easy" 3D wiz movie I learned plenty of when I made it and will be usefull when I start to make details and changes later on. Like this screenshot of the alien space ship on the way down to the Professor Geekensteins Island where he have his private space laboratorium. The 3D landscape down there in the ocean was to heavy for my machine to render out so in the 3D pre-wiz movie I used only some parts of the landing scene. I have 6 Gb ram in my fast machine, but this scene consume 5,8 Gb still if every models and characters and landscape are running with low polygon solution. So I need to double the Ram in the machine before I can start make the high solution scenes of this.

I just add one of the images here on this oblig 8 because it is many of the same images I also used in making story board and 2 D animatic and can be seen there.

Okay!

I have finish project 3, facial animation. We get 4 weeks to do this project. I have this time working out several different facial expressions on the face to my 3D cartoon character I named Professor Geekenstein, and show it true a animation 46 seconds length with sound on and some screen prints and explanations in text

Facial expressions- four principles

In this animation movie I have animated this four basic principles based on this actually scene-situation:

1: His message to the audience
2: Facial expression based on the situation (what he say, how he say it, how he feel/his mode/emotions, the environments around him (do he freeze.., feel hot..?)
3: His body language based on the facts I have written in the two other basic principles I wrote upon here consider that body language up against that he is just awake and normally we don’t move much before we awake properly and the facts that this project is about facial expressions and not body language. Too much body language here would be disturbing for this focus on the facial expressions I like to show here.
4: Plan and timing when he should say and acting what he say and what he should say and acting + totally length of this movie to not let it be to short and not to long

Plan for the animation movie

My plan is to let the professor stand in front of the mirror in the bathroom just awake. Camera is in mirror position and we can then see first the sleepy guy with heavy eyelid and closed mouth. Then he open the mouth big, head back, turned the head to one side and eyes closed, eyebrow down. After that he look in the mirror with open eyes and start talking to himself in the mirror, doing some funny facial expressions to get awake...

I made the decision suddenly when getting this project to make up my own character from near scratch to show the facial expressions I liked to show the audience and sensors of this project. I also needed this new character to a near future animation project soo the decision was very clear to me about that. But I also know it would be needed very hard and fast working the next 4 weeks to be finish with make up a new character and also do a good enough facial animation to send away to the sensors inside the given deadline...

Plan in general how the movie should be and what I needed to do to get it like this to the deadlines was clear, so I now needed to make a timeline for my work progress and that’s not easy for sure to make. I did plan to use 2 weeks building up the character and last 2 week to animate the movie finish and send it to the school inside the deadline.

The movie I planned to animate so it should be first half where character should talking and drop eyelids as normally every seconds, little sleepy and not so fast up/down eyelids. Last 50% of the movie character should do different shape with his face as he say: "Time for some facial training". Here I don’t have drop down of eyelids because that scene is around 20 seconds and after trey this self in front of the mirror its no need for dropdown of eyelids on this short time when starring and do so hard facial "rubber face". More then 20 seconds like this we needed to blink with eyes...

Reveal of the process

To say this in the beginning..., my plan did not get exactly like I plan from the beginning. But I delivered and that’s the most important many times...

What get wrong

Many things get wrong on this project and I can take it from the first happening come up:
First of all, I lose time for the animation because it took longer time then planned to make finish the character. The day before deadline to send away this project I had still not start to animate, I just finish then make up the character for this project...!
Sooo, I then speeded up the animation and did it inside 15 hours nonstop hard work. I used 13 hours animate first half of the movie, then 1 hour to set keys for dropdown of the eyes and some smaller movements on the head and eyes, then the last hour to animate the different facial expressions on the last 50% of the movie. I cud see I should have using some hours extra to sit with the lip-sync in one part of the first part of the movie make it more smooth and maybe more sync, but time for deadline was there short time in front of me and I have respect for deadlines, sooo....

I had already loosed also many hours of the limit time I had because of an error in 3D max come up when animate, it was that good tool to do some fast "make preview" of the animation. That tool stop working and I get only some error-messages up all the time...? and then I needed to rendered out the test of lip-sync using ordinary low-solution rendering-method...:-(

Next of several problems started when rendered out the finish movie.

I had taken some test of the rendering time before in this project and had the timeline for rendering in front of me and started then the 3D max to work out this movie rendering it so it should be finish one hour before the deadline given to us. Then when start rendering I cud see my computer used 30 seconds rendering each frame now comparing with 20 seconds as I tested before...? It was strange...? but I cud not do anything with it, if I did it would be lesser quality on the movie and that’s not fun...
Sooo..., results of that 10 seconds more rendering time each frame is a longer renderings time then I planed. 10 sec times 1380 frames = 230 minutes lost time

And its typical when it starts to be errors it will come many up in a line.....
I started rendering out the whole movie with high quality sound included as an avi file, but when 3dmax had worked for more then 10 hours with that suddenly the whole 3dmax collapsed and shut down....!!
Ohhhh..., and then I cud not open the avi file also 3dmax had already rendered...! I get very stressed then because it was close before deadline. If I had not been so stupid to rendering out to avi file, and more rendered out to single Targafiles, I would not have loosed more then max one minute of the limit time I had left to deadline...
I burned my fingers properly here and get me a learning to rendering in single targa-files in future when have important deadline to follow.

Okay ...I had already been in contact with my teacher in the school about problems with the renderings and asked for a push out little with the deadline because of that so good I get it so not 1 month hard work would be destroyed.

Next time I will have the project finish the day before deadline, incase some problems will come up again...:-)

Conclusion

I have that feeling that the animation is function as my beginning plan. It is something I will look at and work little more with to make it smoother in curve editor and maybe change one of the morph targets making his upon-lip little thicker when have moth fully open. Maybe little body movement at least one time in the movie, maybe make it 5 seconds longer in both ends of the movie with breaks there...? This is something I will work with after I send the project in to the school, and before I will render it out again in planned high solution HD 1920x1080 in blue ray.

STOREY BOARD AND SOUNDTRACK

I have published different posing as screen prints here I will use most of them as storey board posing in my 46 seconds animation movie that is a requirement from the school, to make this animation movie. Plan for the movie is like written upon here, the character will stand in front of a mirror in the bathroom in the morning, sleepy after just awake and he will do some facial exercise and talking some small words to the audience behind the mirror.
I will not publish drawings as storyboards this time since all the posing is published here as renderings and the soundtrack is attached in 3D max and I animate after the voice there. Movements and facial expressions are locked to the character to the timeline true the soundtrack.

Mouth Shapes

I have modeling 9 basic mouth shapes as morph target this time, it should be enough to have fun with the professor when animate him :-)

I show them here with not any movements on eyelid and eyebrows, they will be adding in separate chapter below here.

Eyelid movements

I have 3 basic eyelid positions where eyelids are in neutral position in the posing upon here. Then I have made on the morph targets the eyelids closed and wide open.

Eyebrow Shapes and Movements
I have made 3 different basic eyebrow shapes and changes on positions on the morph-targets. They will be displayed here in this chapter with a mix of the other morph-targets...(inside some hours they will be here :-)
First posing here is using a mix of eyebrow in high position, eyelids wide open and mouth wide open, then lifting up the hands and turning away and backwards the head like he protect himself from some scaring happenings he have focus on with his eyes. Maybe he can scream on this posing...

Below here he has an angry posing. I have used low eyebrows with a sharp curve higher up and out to the side. Some rankles on the start of nose where the eyebrows near meet. He have small hard mouth, small eyes. He points with finger at you and other hand ready to box you. His head and body is going forward, ready to stand for a fight and your hard boxing hand...

In the posing below he has again high eyebrows, near closed eyes and then big cheeks when small whistling lips...

Okay! here is the last posing for the professor this time before he will acting in the short animation movie. He has here below low eye-brows with angel up to the forehead, a relaxing posing maybe...

Reference to this animation project

I act self in front of my camera and record the voice how I used in this animation. I then used that movie of my face as study for this animation and as reference. I notice after done the animation that I was talking to fast in some parts of the scene, it was difficult to make those fast lip movements as an animation and next time I will talk with more clear difference between the words so it is easier to animate.

I also study animation-books in front of the animation work. Books like “Stop Starring”, “Animators Survival Kit”, and other animation books. I also read and follow the forum we have in the school, other students get advices from the teacher. I should have been more active self in the forum, but had to much work on my shoulders to do that this time…

"LINE"

One of the well known authors in Norway with name Axel Jensen did write a book named "LINE" in 1959, and I deside to use "Line" from that book as preference to this my school project. She is a member of a local beat-culture gang and she is blond, smal and bescription she self telling in the book is that the gang enjoy to use old jeans and sweaters and run with no shoes on the warm sand near the beach... Text from the book Line on page 25 in Norwegian language:

" Å Jacob! Din dumme tufs, smilte hun. Kom som du er da vel.
Nei, det kan jeg helst ikke vel...
Jovisst kan du det. Det er jo det som er showen jo! Hva er det for no`galt med den skinnjakken forresten? Si meg det. Den er dødsbarsk skal jeg si deg. Alvorlig talt, du tror jeg fleiper, men jeg elsker slike lurvejakker. Nede på Vasser, om sommer`n altså, bruker jeg ikke annet enn dongri og gamle lurvete gensere. Åsså går vi barbeint. Alle sammen går barbeint. Fatter`n Betty og hele gjengen. Det e`kke noe så fennmenalt som å gå barbeint på varmt svaberg."

Axel Jensen bescribe Line here to be drag in direction to the beatculture, but in another place in the book we can read that Line also feel drag to other direction using style clothing. Here some more text from the book Line in Norwegian language:

" Hun kom fra plassen bak Nationaltheatret. Hun stakk seg ut med det samme, jeg så flere som snudde seg etter henne, og likevel var hun en selvfølgelig del av billedet. Jeg vet ikke hvordan jeg skal få sagt det, men Pernille ble ikke ordentlig Pernille, jeg mener, billedet ble ikke helt skarpt og riktig før Line trippet innover i det, trippet veslevoksent i lys eftersittende vårdrakt og på tynne hæler. Hun så meg ikke, men det lyse håret hennes seilte som dun mot nervene mine."

Why is Line unique and why is she a member of a gang?

I needed to ask me this questions before I started this project. Maybe you will have other answers and not agree with me, but this is my point: "We all are unique in this planet, not one of us are the same. And then Line is also unique..."

Is she a member of a gang? " Yes she is...! She is member of the local gang of old friends and she try in the book to do here undepended of them and go away from them, but she feel drag to them... And she also a member of the growing worldwide gang of the Beat-culture, still if she dont know it self..."

What have I tried to fokus on when making up this character of Line?

I have tried to make here as the bescription in the book. She should be young, sexy/attraktiv, fast to smile, have not the most big boobies, dark red lipstiff going to be near blue in color, she should holding a small handbag like a cigar shape. She should also be a "easy going on" girl, have humour and not a deep complicated mind.

I have been in internet and found different pictures of items from end of 50`s who can match very near the bescription of Line and will use this as my reference when start on the drawings of here. I attach the reference pictures here and also reference on the hairstyle on late 50`s.

3D modelling
In this project we will also modelling 3 items of accessory and publish here. I will modelling the saddle shoes, belt and here hand bag on this project. Saddle shoes was a two color shoe used of men in 50`s. Late 50`s ladies also used it and it was a popular shoe that time, were often worn with big fluffy skirts. But they also used it with jeans and other clothes. Since Line changed here clothing style many times in the book I just deside to make drawing of here and also 3D modelling a clothes set who was common nice style that time.

PROJECT 1/Oblig 1 – ANIMATION OF A HEAVY LIFTING OF A CHARACTER

Noroff Institute have given us students our first project to solve.

Project 1 is to make an animation of a rig lifting a very heavy thing and display the drawings of the key frames, some pic with explanation what we have done and why we did it, and also write and explain our plan and why we took that decision.

I have chosen to use NorOff Institute’s rig on this project 1, named “Finn-Rig”. It is okay to use since we can not give that rig any facial expressions, only blink with the eyes on it and that is inside the criteria for this project.

Planning for character animation.
First I do when I get a project like this is to get some good preferences. It is needed to get the animation to be believable. Preferences to this case I get easy. My nearest naboe lifting steel as training and I get him to lift some heavy thing for me when I study him and made some fast drawings of the most important positions he had when lifting. That one I used to make the key frames in the animation here (see my drawings and screen savings).
As you can see on the animation, screen savings and drawings I planned how the gravity balance on the character and the heavy object will be and how the power going in directions. Where the feet is placed, when it is placed there is fundamental to lift so heavy. Also important detail is that character need to change position on of the hands and then need to help to hold the heavy object with pressing the knees hard to the heavy object before he can continue the lifting. Balance, gravity, power and how they have influence on each other is the key on this animation of a heavy lift. I get my friend the naboe take a look at my animation when it was finish and he said it seem correct.

How key frames were set in the block.
In the 3 screen savings publish here you can see I have 5 key frames and I started placed them like this in the animation: One key frame in the beginning of the animation where character standing in relaxing gravity position, but I tried to let character use his lines with the head, eyes, right hand and one finger to “tell a story” to you as observer that “something will happen soon with that heavy object”.
Next key frame is around the middle of the animation and there I try to collect massive of power in the character, it is the moment before character will start lift and he have already put his feet, arms, body and head in the ready start position. A very important key frame this.
Next two key frames are in time between the final key frames in the end of the movie. This two key frames cud normally have been secondary key frames or between frames, but I determine to also use this two as ordinary key frames because it is needed for the character to change the grip on the stone and move and use his knees to full end his heavy lifting to let it be believable.
The last key frame is in the end of the animation and here again the gravity, balance, power, direction of this things influence to each play a important role if the animation get believable or not. You can see the blue and red marker I placed on the screen savings of balance on gravity, character use of power, heavy object gravity drag downwards, character personally gravity…

How moved from block, to rough, to clean (final) animation.
I used my stop watch on my naboe when he lifted heavy things for me and found out I cud make this animation in around 1 minutes playtime. Then I placed the character (rig) in the key positions after my fast drawings of the naboe when lifting. First and last key frame positions were easy because it is on the beginning and end of the animation. Key frame where he collect power ready to lift and the two key frame positions where he change grip and moving and using his legs to the object I placed after using my stop watch on the lifting to my naboe. After that is only to do the between animation, let the hands following the object and as an example.

Explanation of decisions about placement and design of storytelling poses.
The first thing come in my mind when I get this animation project is that I need to show plenty use of power of the character and the placement of the hole characters use of body, arms, leg and also his head is important to make it to a believable animation. This is way I placed the character like I have done and the design of the posing character have. In the book "Animators Survival Kit - Richard Williams" they placed both feet in same position and I place one feet in forward position to what I feel give more balance and power to the character when thinking about that heavy gravity power to the heavy large object. Character cud not lift a stone in that size because the stone would have a weight maybe around 2000 kilo and still if character was strong enough for that lift, his body weight would have been to less to get a correct balance in my animation. But if the object has near the same weight as the upper part of the characters body, it can be believable and balance in the animation.

Relationship between character personality of emotion and final animation.
My dear naboe here is strong, he have compete in Norwegian championship in lifting steel before and he do like other who will lift heavy. He first relaxing, then have focus on his goal, then going to his start position and collect power, then use fast explosive power in short time. And he knows how to use other parts of his body like his knees as helpfully tools as a technique on this lifting operation. I try to observe my naboe emotion when lifting and put it over to this character on this animation.

The blue and red stripes show directions of power and gravity... Character measure his power against the gravity-power of the object there in the first posing to left, a magic moment....

14 september and the day before deadline for sending in this project to the school :-))

I have get some advices a couple of times from teachers in school and enjoy it for sure, have tryed to following it up as best as I can. I notice one of the teachers cud not find some blockings/drawing of frames in this my oblig 1, but it has in fact been published here already the second day after we get this project and it is still here as a easy hand drawing with number of keys upon here...Maybe the teacher just didnt see it ?

I also used a electronic blocking/ Storey Board who is fast to make since we have already the rig disponible and we dont need to think about facial expression on the character. As you can see the I have split the blockings up to keyframes, secundary keyframes, re-action and secundary re-action. I have given them different color so you easy can see what I mean. I just placed the character on that frame numbers and did the "between" animation after.

I chosed a lifting object with large volume because I did then not need to move the character so much since a large volum lifting object will block most of the possibilityes for the character to move like the oposite from a smaller volume lifting target who will be liftet in around chest position and then give the charater possibiltyes to move near like normal.

This is a sort of analyze different movies. A day number 3 student lesson we get from our school NorOff- Institute here on the 3D Movie production class. I try my very best…

First movie made by Norman Mc Laren do not give me so much, it is to me one of the typical”New Art” we sometimes can see in Modern Art Museums. Some people can “See things” where other can not see anything in same art and next time it is the opposite….
Still if it is not my style this type of art movies I like that someone use time to make them. It is good and we need a wide range of art in our culture, it is good for our brains to also use time to study movies like this…
I think I have seen similar movies in Modern Art Galleries…
Sound match with the movements and motion-speed and McLaren have used two very different colours to make a big contrast, and it is function well. Red colour on the scene-background (red is a warm colour) and blue colour on the motion parts (blue is a cold colour). I can also see MacLaren have made the blue “bobbles” not totally flat, but he have round the edges with different colour-shade or light...? This round edge-shape together with reducing sizes of the items and movements from corners and in to the centre of the scene or the opposite arrangements give me a small feeling of that he try to make a 3D scene out of the hole scene…? If 1940 is the year he made this movie he is maybe one of the pioneers of making a real 3D Movie and then the early beginning of the 3D movie world we will see more out of the next years.
I am not so sure if I am going to make this type of experimental movies in future, but we never know about the future …

Next movie with title Fantasmagorie made of the “Father of cartoon-movies” Emile Cohl is a great movie to study. It is 102 year old and amazing to see the hands in real come in to the scene and use the pencil, creating some art for us there!
Storey seem to me only experimental made of Cohl, but it is to understand the characters he have made there and I think that was his goal also with the movie, not to show the deep intellectual storey.
It is not my style this and I don’t think I will make this type of cartoon-movies in future, but we will see…
Animators and everyone need to thank Emile Cohl for his experimental mind.

Movie with title Cafè serrè made by Denis Bouyer/Vincent E Sousa/ Yann de Prèval and Bertrand Avril, is a type of movie I like very good and it is in my style of what type of movie I will try make in the future. It is fresh and has plenty fun included + very good animation, light, matching music and sound and the correct environment to the act + matching characters on the scene. It is short, but do not need to be longer to tell what the moviemakers like to tell us. This is high class 3D Cartoon animation!

The movie Pocoyo – Something among friends! made by David Cantolla, Louis Gellego and Guillermo Garcia Carsi is a typical kid-movie for kids in age around 3-5 year old. Storey in the movie is pedagogic good and remind my about the Germans who started more early then other countries to use high level of pedagogic in their kid-movies displayed in their television-programs. Later on also other countries and movie production-companies seem to understand what important this is and started hire their own psychologist to advice the movie production companies to guide them true the movie production. It is vice since we all know that parents now usually are busier with both in work and many other things and it is easy to just put the small kids in front of the television. Then it is the television and the movies there teach the small kids their future behaviour with the way the movies are build up for the kids. Before some of the largest cartoon movie factory in the world had near 85 percent of their action in the movies a contains to let their character only run around and hunt each others in some way and let the characters do so much evil on the other character they cud manage to put in the movie. This naturally affect our small kids using so much time in front of the television and the learning attitude from movies in television also follow many of the small kids to enjoy violence when they grow up.
As I write in the beginning, the Germans understand these important things as one of the first countries in the world and now many countries following this up. It is very good  !
This type of movie I like very much and it is also my style of movies to kids I will make in future. Everything in the movie is light, not complicated, and easy to understand and it matches with music, sounds, motion, scene, facial expressions …

The movie Ryan of Chris Landreth and Ryan Larkin …….

Chris Landreth met Ryan Larkin, a renowned animator in the 60s and 70s, who had recently fallen in a spiral of excessive drinking, cocaine abuse, and homelessness. This resulted in the 2004 production of Ryan, which won an Oscar the same year.
This movie is a combination of psychedelic, realism and cartoon. It is serious and fun and interesting made. I can understand it won an Oscar. It is very creative. Movie has very high quality and have strong message. I can see many people have been involved in this movie. Maybe I cud like to make a short movie like that style one time, we see…

The movie Cyber Evolution-Fantasy animation I don’t like so much, but this is about we have different taste. I feel it is little to “easy” made, but maybe it is an old movie. I don’t really get the storey of it, what is the goal with this movie? Maybe other can see things in the movie that I can’t and that’s it…?

The movie Toyota – Branding / Prius is a typical commercial advertisement movie. It is given a straight out “green” message and tries to convince people to by the Toyota car because the car is a green car…? Maybe other people run and by that car of the movie, but the movie do not convince me enough. It is hard competition out there and I would also have used something to display the difference between that car and the competition-cars. This movie is too soft after my opinion.

Long time with not writing here, but I have been busy with my school project oblig 12 the animation movie I have worked with this winter and spring. This project is finish and I will give it to the school today, one week before the deadline. I understand from the school that I have pass all the examen so far so everything is okay :-) This is the most important to me. I also have deside to study classic camera and not animation the next 2 year and take a master degree on that. I also have a start up with movieproduction with my movieproduction company named Galaxycos Movies registrated here in Norway and have started with my first comercial movie with the shots on 15 july this summer, Working with the moviemanus and storeyboard at this time :-) It will be experienced television actress and actors acting in the movie, top models so I am very excited for the shots, it is fun for sure.

Friday 25 February

Still waiting for NorOff school to give me the sensorwork of most of my finish schoolprojects from semester 3 and 4 and reply to me about my complains of sensorwork done of the school in semester 1 and 2. This is not good, we student need also continous finish sensorwork as a positive and constructive feedback when we work so hard with schoolprojects and pay plenty money for school fees. NorOff cant wait for 2 year before they do some action about this...

Reason I have not write here since 12 november is not complicated. I needed to push out deadlines on many projects in the school because of less feedback one week close after 12 november. It affect me and the fact I not agree with some sensor work on school. But I still trust the school that they soon do some action and look at my complains and give me reviced correct sensorwork and grades. Then I can concentrate on the school work 100%. Push it out to summar mean school dont care if one of us students get lesser concentration comparing with the other students, and I dont belive a pro school like this do that...
I have no start the 4 semester of this 3D movieproduction and will make a short movie this winter, spring. It is a big challenge for sure.

Friday 12 November
Making more pencil drawings and will publish them here pasing the weekend. We have also started oblig 5, making a Treatment for a short movie. Many new things there and very interesting for sure.

Friday 05 November
Very busy animating and rendering out my oblig 3 the facial expression...phuuuuu! 3d max stop up and closed down destroy the long avi file with renderings after maybe 12 hours renderings!! Sooo, I burned my fingers today and will in future rendering out important things from 3D Max Studio only single Targafiles. If I had done that today I would only have losed 1 minute instead of 12-14 hours!!

Have near finish the new rig for this oblig 3 and study facial expressions in books like "Stop Staring" and 2-3 other great books, and also study animationmovies on YouTube :-)

Friday 22 october

Have started oblig 3/project 3 given to us the school Noroff Institute in Kristiansand. I have needed to rebuild up again my 3d cartonn character Professor Geekenstein. We can borrow finish character-rig from the scool to this school project, but I think I learn more when build up from scratch and use my own rig, special with this facial expression animation because I need now to sit and make 12 new morph-target to the head and that need studies of facial expressions before and when modelling the morph-targets.

We have get the grade from teacher last day and I think its best to say......."no comments..."
It is this time one handmade pencil drawing published on this blog for every friday since this school started end of august, 8 drawings for 8 weeks...:-)
Have started make my character Professor Geekenstein ready for face animation who is the project number 3 on Noroff Institute. I need to re-build the hole character with a new scape, plenty work forward me before I can start the animation work...

Friday 24 september

I am in Bangkok for a short trip this week and sit inside a hotelroom modelling up 3D items from the year 1950`s, and make some drawings of Line. First 3D copy of a belt woman used in that time is finished. Not complicated, but took me some time since it need to be exactly a correct copy of that time style. It is a good learning for us students this, a thanks to the Noroff Institute.

Has been a busy week, finish with the project 1 and started with project 2. Have made 2 of the drawings here out of 3, but are not so pleased with the nose and mouth yet on Line, need to do some more work there I can see. First drawing of Line from here back I am pleased with and will not change.

Friday 10 September

It is a day I used to work more with the drawings of the church, it is plenty timeconsuming, many details on it, but I think it will be okay. This week I have also done some more animation of Oblig one, the heavy lifting project.

Friday 03 September

This week we started our first project on school. It is a animation of a rig or character lifting some heavy object. We have 2 weeks to work with it and that is plenty time for this lesson. I done finish half of the animation this first day and will do some more next week. I have standing in front of my art staffely and drawing with pencil the old church here in the town today. It is many details, but okay to do as training in shadow understanding. This time I draw the church with a "flat" light and after that same church in sunshine when sun is from behind the church to get the shadows into the scene.

Friday 27 august 2010 - thoughts about the first study week...

This first study week on Noroff Institute has been fine to me, still If I get sick and using pencilinium. One of the reason it took little time for me to publish the first lessons. But I feel better now so it will be okay.

I have made a series of drawings on the drawing day last friday and will open a map here on my blog where it will be published.

24 august 2010 - start of the school
Okay! A new study year is here and I am ready for it !

On this site I will write some reflections of my course regularly as a requirement from the school. It’s good, we learn of it and teacher and the school also get some input from us continuous :-)

Today is the first day of the school and I am going to study as a web student and not in ordinary class because of less of students to fill up an ordinary school class. Hopefully I can manage; at least I will try my very best as usual and hope my teacher will be patient with all my questions the next months...
